The Basket

The Basket is a food program that serves nearly 20,000 individuals annually, giving boxes of food that will feed a family for three to five days.  CareCenter employs a three-tiered biblical approach to its food distribution for the purpose of strengthening the hand of the poor rather than enabling them.

The Good Samaritan Principle is found in Luke 10:9-37. Recipients receive food three times, no obligation whatsoever.

The Pauline Principle is found in 2 Thessalonians 3:10.  Recipients are asked to perform small community service tasks in exchange for food. This principle is applied to the fourth through seventh visits.

The King David Principle is expressed in Psalms 37:25. From the eighth visit onward, we ask the recipients to work with the CareCenter Team to determine ways to improve their lives.

Widows, the disabled, and the elderly are exempt, receiving food without question, for as long as it is needed.
